HERO ARMOR: independent Ukrainian art project to attend Burning Man 2026
Pragmatika.media reported on 23 July 2026 that HERO ARMOR, an independent project by a team from Ukraine, the Netherlands and the United States, will be presented at Burning Man 2026. The outlet calls it a symbolic sculpture about memory, inner strength and carrying on the stories of people who are no longer present.
According to Pragmatika, the story began in 2025 when founder Lisa Kormilets left a photo of her cousin, 3D artist Zakhar Zakharov, who volunteered to defend Ukraine and did not return, at the Temple. His childhood friend happened to see the photo among thousands and got in touch with her. Back home, Kormilets, who had no prior experience with large installations, decided to continue the story as an art object. Her friend Marcel offered to print parts on his 3D printer; her father and brother later helped create the first 3D models.
The article says the sculpture recreates Zakhar's image of a futuristic defender in blue and yellow. The team works with the UNBROKEN rehabilitation center in Lviv, while Rescue Now Foundation is named as charitable partner running a fundraising campaign under a cooperation memorandum with the UNBROKEN foundation. The festival theme is Axis Mundi, and 2026 marks its 40th anniversary.
«For Lisa, HERO ARMOR was also a story about the courage to start.»— pragmatika.media
«It is a symbol of the inner armor that a person finds within himself when protecting others, going through loss, or continuing to live, preserving the memory of loved ones.»— pragmatika.media
